line laser

What is a line laser

A line laser projects one or more laser lines onto the wall, floor or ceiling. Most line lasers have at least two laser lines, one horizontal and one vertical, which together form a cross. With the line lasers shown here, these laser lines are automatically aligned horizontally and vertically. The line laser replaces a spirit level and makes it easy to align building elements or decorations. Other names for these devices are cross line lasers, multi-line lasers or cross lasers.

Basic information on line lasers

Today's line lasers usually have at least one horizontal and one vertical laser line, which project a cross when switched on at the same time. The laser lines are generated by laser diodes. The sharpness, visibility and line width depend on the laser class installed. This classification also provides information about the hazard potential.

Self-levelling for line lasers

Professional line lasers have a so-called self-levelling function, which means they align themselves independently in the horizontal and vertical planes. For this purpose, the laser diodes are fixed to a pendulum suspension. This pendulum suspension self-levels within the scope of its freedom of movement in the housing. The design and function of this pendulum suspension is reminiscent of an antique level. The self-levelling function can be switched off on some models via a locking function, meaning that the pendulum's freedom of movement is blocked. This means that not only straight lines can be projected, but also inclined lines.

Basic functions of line lasers

The individual functions can be operated via a corresponding control panel on the line laser. As a rule, the laser lines can be switched individually or simultaneously. Receiver mode can also be switched on. This enables the use of a so-called laser detector.

Areas of application for line lasers indoors

Indoors, line lasers can be used to align and measure simple and sometimes complex trades. From setting up and hanging furniture and furnishings to drawing in walls, ceilings and floors, there are virtually no limits to the possible applications. With the right tools and accessories, you can save a lot of time and achieve precise results.

Areas of application for line lasers outdoors

Depending on the lighting conditions, the visibility of the laser lines is poor or non-existent outdoors. With the help of a suitable laser detector, these laser lines can be picked up and reproduced. This is done with a visual or acoustic signal, which the laser detector emits when approaching or reaching the exact alignment. The working range of the line laser is also extended.

Accessories and aids for line lasers

There is a whole range of useful accessories for line lasers and cross line lasers. These include tripods and telescopic poles, which can be used to position the line lasers at a height. Special wall and ceiling stands are particularly suitable for working on ceilings. So-called target boards and laser goggles improve the visibility of the laser lines and help with exact positioning.
