Laser colors

The different laser colors for construction lasers

With measuring and surveying devices, we are generally talking about 3 different laser types, which differ according to the laser beam color and the associated wavelength. For example, the laser types are used in line lasers and rotation lasers. These three types are the red laser beam, the green laser beam and the infrared laser beam. The wavelengths of the red and green laser beams are in the visible range, whereas the infrared laser beam is in the invisible range.

Red laser beam

The red laser beam lies in a wavelength range between 635 nm and around 700 nm. The louse diode installed in a line laser or rotating laser usually has a wavelength of 635 nm. These laser diodes are primarily assigned to laser class 2, are therefore harmless and do not require any protective measures for operation.

Infrared laser beam

The infrared laser beam lies in a wavelength range between 780 nm and 10600 nm. The louse diode installed in a rotating laser usually has a wavelength of 780 nm. These laser diodes are primarily assigned to laser class 1 and are therefore completely harmless and do not require any protective measures for operation. These invisible laser diodes are used in particular in laser devices for outdoor use as there is no danger to the environment.

Green laser beam

The green laser beam lies in a wavelength range between 491 nm and 568 nm. Most of the rotation lasers and line lasers with a green laser beam currently available on the market are in laser class 3R. The disadvantage of this is that due to legal regulations, users of laser class 3R must be specially trained. In addition, the work area must be specially marked and secured against access. These restrictions make it almost impossible to use such rotating lasers on the construction site. There is also a risk for the tradesman that the responsible laser safety officer will prohibit work with a class 3R laser on the construction site or in the workshop. Thanks to a new diode technology from Osram, hedue rotary lasers with a green laser beam are now available in the safe laser class II. This means that the advantages of four times better visibility, high beam quality and sharp contrast can be used without any restrictions. This green laser diode gives the user real added value in interior work. This rotating laser can also be used outdoors without hesitation.
