Electrical and electronic devices have to withstand harsh environmental conditions in everyday construction applications. An international code is used to classify the procurement unit of devices or their housings. In addition to the IP, the IP protection classes (International Protection Codes) are made up of two code numbers between 0 and 9. The first digit indicates the protection an enclosure offers against contact or foreign bodies. The second digit stands for protection against moisture or water. If a code number cannot be specified, it is replaced by an X.
Enclosures with protection class IP54 protect against dust in damaging quantities, and there is also complete protection against contact and splashing water on all sides.
Enclosures with protection class IP64 are absolutely dust-tight, and there is also complete protection against contact and splashing water on all sides.
Enclosures with protection class IP65 are absolutely dust-tight, and there is also complete protection against contact and water jets from all sides.
Enclosures with protection class IP68 are completely dust-tight and are also fully protected against contact and permanent immersion.
Enclosures with protection class IPX7 are protected against the ingress of water when submerged.
Enclosures with protection class IPX8 are protected against permanent immersion.
